Introducing AXA’s Prevention With Impact Accelerator

AXA is a global insurance company, and the world’s first insurance brand, with headquarters in France. Its mission is to empower people to live better lives. As part of this mission, AXA employees participate in an annual community week, called Corporate Responsibility Week, which gives everyone a chance to get involved and have an impact on people’s lives for the better. This year, AXA has teamed up with Impact Hub, a global social innovation network, to find one venture anywhere in the world that shares the goal of empowering people to live better lives through risk prevention services with real impact on health and safety.

Here’s an example

The George Institute for Global Health in Australia wanted to develop a simple solution that addressed the world’s leading cause of mortality. Chronic disease is responsible for 60% of all deaths (WHO), a statistic that is all the more shocking considering stroke, diabetes, heart disease, chronic respiratory diseases and cancer are among the most preventable health problems. In fact, the majority of chronic disease can be traced back to four modifiable behaviors: tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, and inactivity (CDC). And while not everyone has access to health coaches or regular doctor visits, the George Institute knew that most people have access to mobile phones.

Their resulting TEXTCARE program maximizes global reach through personalized text messages that help prevent chronic disease and minimize risks to those that suffer from it. Subscribers receive friendly advice encouraging them to lead healthier lifestyles, from suggesting fruit instead of ice cream for dessert to reminding them to take their pill on time. Early research shows that the program can double the chances of participants taking their medications correctly in addition to making them nearly 1.4 times as likely to exercise, 44% more likely to control their blood pressure, and 33% more likely to quit smoking. TEXTCARE was the winner of the 2016 Google Impact Challenge and is now set to scale to China and India.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying to the AXA Prevention with Impact Accelerator, please ensure your initiative fulfills all the following criteria:

  • Your organization is a legally-registered for-profit or non-profit entity
  • Your intervention is globally-scalable. Our preference is for solutions that can be digitally distributed
  • Your intervention can already demonstrate impact or has a clear and viable projected impact case
  • You are available and eligible to travel to Europe for a 7-day scaling workshop, beginning July 17, 2017
  • You are prepared to work closely with an AXA Global Graduate to prepare a scaling plan over a three-month period following the scaling workshop
  • You are fluent in English

About The Accelerator
